Senior Process Development Engineer
Job Location: Sydney, New South Wales
About the Role
We are partnering with a leading Australian high‑tech manufacturer that designs, develops, tests and builds advanced optical systems for global communications networks. Based in Melbourne, you will own the test and measurement processes that validate complex optical products in a high‑volume production environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, automate and implement optical test processes for production.
- Create and maintain test specifications, work instructions and operator training materials.
- Validate new test and measurement methods before they enter production.
- Analyze measurement accuracy, repeatability and system reliability; monitor calibration and optical parameters to spot drift or abnormal behaviour.
- Troubleshoot optical test equipment and process failures.
- Develop metrics around yield, performance and failure modes.
- Collaborate with NPI, DVT, product and manufacturing teams to define optimal optical test conditions.
- Support the transfer of test processes to overseas manufacturing facilities.
- Audit production processes, equipment and operator training.
- Ensure all manufacturing equipment, tooling and material handling meet OH&S requirements.
Who You Are
- Hold an engineering degree with a solid understanding of optics/photonics and test & measurement.
- 2+ years experience in process, manufacturing, test or production engineering within a high‑tech environment.
- Hands‑on experience developing or maintaining optical test systems and working with optical fibre.
- Familiarity with optical measurement techniques such as cut‑back, Mueller Matrix methods or reflectometry.
- Strong ability to analyse test data, identify process or measurement issues and drive improvements.
- Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
- Technically curious and comfortable getting hands‑on to understand why a measurement is incorrect, not just rerunning the test.
