Embedded Talent Partner

Your own embedded recruiter.
Inside your team.

For hardware companies with several critical engineering hires ahead. Lance joins your team as your embedded, firmware and hardware recruiter, working inside your ATS and under your company email.

Agency fees add up fast. Generalist recruiters can't assess depth.

When you need five or more embedded engineers, contingency fees can reach six figures. A contract recruiter costs less, but most can't tell a strong firmware engineer from a well written CV.

An Embedded Talent Partner gives you both: the cost structure of an in house recruiter and the technical judgment of an embedded engineer.

How it works

01

Kickoff and market brief.

In week one, Lance meets each hiring manager, rewrites the job descriptions and delivers a market brief per role: salary range, how many engineers match the spec in your location, typical time to fill and how many approaches it takes to make one hire.

02

Inside your systems.

Lance works from a company email address and your ATS. Candidates only ever see your brand, and every note and stage stays with you.

03

Source and screen.

Engineers are approached directly and screened technically before a hiring manager sees them.

04

Run the process.

Interviews, feedback, candidate care and offers, managed through to signing.

Success agreed by engineering, not guesswork

Hiring targets are set per role by your engineering leader, using the market brief, before work starts. Your engineering sponsor is the only person who can change them.

We commit to:

first screened candidates or a written market read for every role within 15 business days, shortlist timing set per role based on how scarce the profile really is, and only technically screened candidates, never volume for its own sake.

We ask of you:

interview feedback within 48 hours, first interviews within a week of a shortlist, salary bands agreed at kickoff, and access to your ATS data so reporting can run.

If a role's spec, salary band or hiring manager changes, its timeline restarts from that date.

How pricing works

From USD 8,000 per month, plus a success fee per hire. Across a hiring push it typically costs less than half of agency fees. If there is no hire by day 90 and your team has met its commitments, month four is free.

Full terms are set out in your proposal.

Two partners per quarter

Lance takes on two Embedded Talent Partner engagements each quarter, so every client gets his full attention.

Is it right for you?

It works best when you have four or more open embedded, firmware, FPGA, electronics, controls or robotics roles, an engineering leader to sponsor the engagement, and funding for the next 12 months of hiring. For a single critical role, a contingent or retained search is usually the better fit.

FAQ

How is this different from a contract recruiter?

Most contract recruiters are generalists. Lance spent 15 years in electronics and firmware before recruitment and assesses engineers on the work itself.

Do you need to be on site?

No. Lance works remotely inside your systems and joins your hiring syncs.

What is the minimum term?

Three months, then month to month with 30 days notice.

What if a hire leaves early?

If a hire leaves within 90 days, we find a replacement at no extra fee.

What is an embedded talent partner?

An embedded talent partner is a specialist recruiter who works inside a company's hiring team for a fixed term, using the company's email, ATS and brand. RunTime Recruitment's Embedded Talent Partner service places Lance Harvie, an embedded engineer turned recruiter, inside hardware companies to hire embedded, firmware, FPGA, electronics, controls and robotics engineers.

How is an embedded talent partner different from a recruitment agency?

An agency works outside your company and charges a percentage of salary per hire, often 20 to 25%. RunTime's Embedded Talent Partner works inside your team on a monthly retainer with a smaller success fee per hire, which typically costs less than half of agency fees when hiring four or more engineers.

How is it different from a contract recruiter or RPO?

Most contract recruiters and RPO providers are generalists. RunTime's Embedded Talent Partner is delivered by Lance Harvie, who spent 15 years in electronics and firmware engineering before recruitment, so every candidate is screened technically before a hiring manager sees them.

How much does an embedded recruiter partnership cost?

RunTime's Embedded Talent Partner costs from USD 8,000 per month plus a success fee per hire, with a three month minimum term. Across four or more hires it typically costs less than half of agency fees. If there is no hire by day 90 and the client has met its agreed commitments, the fourth month is free.

Who should use an embedded talent partner?

It suits hardware, robotics, aerospace and defense tech companies with four or more open embedded, firmware, FPGA, electronics, controls or robotics roles, an engineering leader sponsoring the hiring, and funding for the next 12 months. For a single critical hire, RunTime recommends a contingent or retained search.

How are hiring targets set?

At kickoff, RunTime delivers a market brief for each role covering salary range, candidate supply in the hiring location, typical time to fill and approaches needed per hire. The client's engineering leader then sets targets per role, and only that sponsor can change them.

Can an embedded talent partner work remotely for US companies?

Yes. Lance Harvie works remotely inside the client's systems, joins hiring syncs and serves companies in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

What reporting does the client get?

Clients get a private live dashboard built from their ATS data, a one page fortnightly pipeline report and a monthly funnel review with their engineering sponsor.

How many clients does RunTime take on?

Lance Harvie takes on two Embedded Talent Partner engagements per quarter.

Who is Lance Harvie?

Lance Harvie is the founder of RunTime Recruitment, a specialist agency for embedded, firmware, FPGA and electronics engineers. He worked in electronics and firmware engineering, including C, assembly and RTOS firmware, before moving into technical recruitment.
