Electrical Design Engineer
Job Location: Melbourne, Victoria
About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to own VESI (Voltage‑Enabled Substation Interface) projects across Victoria. From concept through construction, you’ll be the go‑to expert for Powercor, AusNet and Jemena distribution networks, delivering Underground Residential Distribution (URD) designs for land‑development projects with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed designs for Powercor, AusNet and Jemena networks.
- Engineer URD schemes for land‑development projects, ensuring they meet all network and Australian standards.
- Apply practical overhead design knowledge when required.
- Manage design deliverables, documentation and technical requirements from kickoff to handover.
- Validate every drawing against network standards, AS/NZS standards and client specifications.
- Coordinate with clients, network authorities and internal teams to resolve design issues promptly.
- Develop cost‑effective solutions that satisfy technical constraints.
- Maintain clear, proactive communication throughout the project lifecycle.
What You Bring
- At least 3 years of design experience on VESI networks.
- Demonstrated competence with Powercor, AusNet and Jemena systems.
- Hands‑on experience delivering URD land‑development projects.
- Solid understanding of overhead design practices.
- Ability to work independently while juggling competing priorities.
- Familiarity with AS/NZS 3000 electrical design requirements (a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organised problem‑solving, and a professional, client‑facing attitude.
- Experience with United Energy or CitiPower (a plus).

Realistic Expectations
This is not a junior drafting role. You will be expected to own complex designs, meet strict compliance deadlines, and troubleshoot network‑specific challenges with little hand‑holding.
Location & Work Rights
The position is based in Victoria, Australia. Applicants must already reside in Australia and hold valid work rights. Overseas applications will not be considered.
