Embedded interviews beyond LeetCode

Embedded interviews beyond LeetCode

LeetCode interviews for embedded roles are broken.

You're hiring someone to write interrupt handlers, manage DMA, debug race conditions on bare metal...

So you ask them to reverse a linked list?

80% of LeetCode-style interview questions are irrelevant for embedded engineers. You're filtering for algorithmic cleverness, not hardware intuition.

What you should test instead:

  • Reading a schematic and identifying the bug
  • Explaining what happens when you dereference a NULL pointer on their target MCU
  • Writing an ISR that doesn't trash the stack
  • Debugging a timing issue with only a logic analyzer

LeetCode tests if they can pass an interview.
A 30-minute hardware debug session tests if they can do the job.

Embedded hiring managers: Stop copying FAANG. Build interviews that match your domain.
