Here is a simple program you can use to activate and initialize a watchdog event. You can compile it using Borland C in DOS. The program is written with the impression that watchdog timer requires a 1 to monitor lockup activity which will keep it from being 1. When the Keyboard is struck, which forces a 0, the unit should reboot thinking it has experienced a lockup.

#include

int keyboard_hit = 0;
int a;
int main()
{
a = inp(0x443);// Enable watch dog when I/O Port is read
outp(0x443,1);// Set initial value to the I/O Port
while (keyboard_hit == 0) //Do the routine while keyboard is 0
{
keyboard_hit = kbhit();
// kbhit is part of conio.h
//which will return a non 0 character when keyboard is struck

outp(0x443,1);//will set I/O port to 1 until keyboard is struck
a = inp (0x80);
}

return
0;
}
